Tracfone brand offers the well-known Lifeline Assistance provider, Safelink Wireless. As the oldest and largest company that participates, Safelink Wireless provides free cell phones and has discounted or free monthly plans.
Customers who sign up for Lifeline Assistance through Safelink Wireless will receive the following benefits: Free smartphone; 500MB of data; Unlimited texts; Unlimited voice minute. The program limits free cell phones to one per household.
Although this can be inconvenient for families with multiple adults, households can get the latest device. Even though the phone is free, it does not mean you will get an obsolete cell.
Safelink Wireless also has inexpensive upgrades for free plans. Customers can request additional data services and pay the difference between the free and discounted plans.
Like Assurance Wireless, Safelink Wireless is not available in every area. You can apply for a free phone and cell service if you live in the following states:

If you are unsatisfied with your service, you can switch to a different provider. The Lifeline Assistance program does not limit or trap you into one provider or plan.
